How We Recycle Responsibly

All recycling and recovery are handled in-house at our Norton distribution facility, where every appliance and all packaging materials are processed responsibly.

Get an Inside Look At Our Recycling Operations

The old appliances at customers' homes get taken out on a one for one basis. For example, when you purchase a refrigerator, we take one back, and then we recycle it through a metal recycling company. It's very important that we recycle the appliances. We just don't throw them away due to the fact that it's the right thing to do for the environment because we don't want to fill landfills. This machine behind me, the GreenMax densifier unit, recycles all styrofoam, comes out of a customer's home. The styrofoam runs up the conveyor belts into the crusher and then gets extruded and made into blocks. The Styrofoam comes from all the packaging supplied by the manufacturers. In this packaging, we have cardboard, straps, and Styrofoam. We take back all cardboard from the customer's home and recycle it here at our facility with a compact biller. The cardboard machine, the baler, collects all the cardboard and then crushes it into bales that we recycle through a cardboard company. So the Yale team is doing is they are removing the refrigerant from the refrigerator, and that refrigerant will be recycled and reprocessed to be reused. So what they're doing is pumping it out into the recovery machine, then that machine will filter out the oils and contaminants. And then from the machine, it'll go into the cylinder tank and that tank will be recycled and brought to manufacturing to be reused. The refrigerant removal machine works as what it does, it has a compressor inside so that compressor pumps the refrigerant out into the machine. And then the machine will filter the contaminants and oils. And then once it's filtered out, it'll be pumped into a recovery tank, which the tank is then labeled and then a recycling center will come grab it and then process it and be reused as refrigerant again. So the refrigerant needs to be removed because it has an effect on the ozone layer. So that process helps prevent deterioration in the ozone and greenhouse gas effect. So it helps the environment on there. So that's why we remove the refrigerant.
