The Free Fit Check: We Confirm It Fits Before Delivery Day
Once you have chosen your appliances, a trained Yale team member walks your space and the route into it, then confirms the specific products on your order will actually get there. There is no charge for the visit.
Already working with someone at Yale Appliance? Ask them directly. Otherwise call 617-825-9253 and say you have a question about fit.

What Is Yale Appliance's Free Fit Check?
It is a no-charge visit to your home, before delivery day, to confirm that a specific product you have chosen will actually get there. A trained Yale team member walks the route the appliance has to travel, the doors, the hallway, the turn at the landing, the stairs down to the basement, and checks whether that product can:
- Fit through the exterior entry points of the home
- Be safely brought into the desired room
- Fit within the available space, where applicable
They flag any access or delivery concern worth knowing about while they are there.
It exists because the appliance is almost never the problem. The opening usually checks out. What fails is the path, the door swing, or the clearance nobody thought to measure, and that failure is normally discovered on delivery day with a crew standing in the kitchen. Moving that discovery earlier is the whole idea.
It is not the installation trip estimate, which is a separate paid visit that works through your electrical, plumbing and gas requirements and prices the installation.

Most Appliances That "Do Not Fit" Actually Fit
The measurement people take is the opening. The measurements that decide delivery day are the ones nobody thinks to take.
The path, not the opening
An appliance has to get from the truck to the room. Doors, hallway width, the turn at a landing, stair treads, thresholds. Any one can be the constraint, and none appear on a spec sheet.
The final destination, not the front door
Getting a washer through the front door is not the same as getting it down the basement stairs and around the corner. The last three feet stops more deliveries than the first three.
Both door swings
A refrigerator door needs to open past 90 degrees before the crispers come out, and the kitchen door has to clear the appliance. A unit can fit its opening perfectly and still be unusable.
The depth nobody accounts for
Depth with the door and handle attached, not the number on the spec sheet. Add the gap a full-depth unit needs behind it, and an alcove that measured fine on paper comes up short.
In Greater Boston this is not a rare problem. Brownstone landings will not turn a full-depth refrigerator. Plenty of houses have exactly one door an appliance can pass through. Our crews solve this in real kitchens every week, and the jobs that go smoothly are almost always the ones somebody measured first. As Yale Appliance CEO Steve Sheinkopf puts it, "Boston was designed for horses, not Sub-Zero refrigerators."
What Does a Fit Check Cover?
Two things: whether the product can get into the home and to the room, and, on basic products, whether it fits the available space.
The route in
- The exterior entry points, and every doorway, hallway and turn between the truck and the room
- Stairs, landings, railings and thresholds
- Whether the product can be safely brought into the desired room
- Whether extra crew or a different door is needed, and any other access concern
The space
- Openings on basic products: freestanding refrigerators, standard ranges and laundry appliances
- Height, width and depth, measured on site rather than off a plan
- Depth with the door and handle attached, which is where spec sheets mislead
- Clearance for doors, drawers and racks to open all the way
Products Not Included in Standard Space and Cutout Checks
A Fit Check does not check cutout dimensions or installation readiness for these products:
- Wall ovens
- Dishwashers
- Hoods
- Microwaves
- Microwave drawers
- Warming drawers
- Under-counter products
- Built-in refrigeration
What you get out of it
- A straight answer on fit: yes, no, or "this one instead"
- Any access or delivery concern the team notices while they are there
- A delivery the crew is not guessing at, because the route is already measured
- Your options, if the first choice does not work. We sell the alternatives
If the honest answer is that the product you ordered will not fit, we will tell you that. See what delivery includes for what happens once something does fit.
Not part of a Fit Check
- Cabinet and countertop modification assessments
- Panel and hardware readiness on integrated refrigeration
- Removing, disconnecting or relocating your existing appliance
- Electrical, plumbing and gas: assessing your requirements, running new lines, or modifying walls. Those belong to the installation trip estimate
- An installation quote or date, or confirming your delivery cost and window
What Does a Fit Check Cost?
Nothing, whatever the answer turns out to be.
The Free Fit Check is free. No charge for the visit, no deposit, and the answer costs the same either way. If the honest conclusion is that the range you ordered will not go in, you have spent nothing to learn that, and you have learned it with time left to change the order. If it will not fit, you can cancel with no penalty.
Yale Appliance can do this because of how the company is put together. We sell the appliance, deliver it, install it and service it, all with our own people. An appliance that cannot get through your door is our problem as much as yours: a wasted truck, a wasted crew, a return to process. Half an hour with a tape measure beforehand is the cheapest part of that chain, which makes this neither a loss leader nor a favor.

What free actually means here
- No charge for the visit
- No deposit, and nothing credited or clawed back later
- No charge whether the answer is yes or no
- No penalty to cancel if it will not fit
- Ask for it on one product or on a whole kitchen
When Should You Ask for a Fit Check?
Any time fit is a real question, and always before delivery day. A Fit Check is model-specific, so we will need the specifications for the product you chose, or for both if you are choosing between two.
A gas dryer
The most common request by a wide margin: a gas line, a vent that has to run somewhere, and usually a basement or closet at the end of a turn in the stairs.
A stacked or unitized laundry pair
Stacked height fits the wall and then will not clear the door frame, or the pair will not turn into a closet.
A full-size refrigerator
Bottom-mount and French-door units in particular. Depth with the door on, and a route that will actually turn a unit this wide.
Built-in and integrated refrigeration
Cutouts, panels and installation readiness are not part of a Fit Check. For these units the visit that answers those questions is the installation trip estimate. Ask your Appliance Sales Consultant which visit your order needs.
A pro or oversized range
A 48-inch range going into a 36-inch history. Weight and width are usually the constraint long before the space is.
An older home, or a hard way in
Narrow doors, tight stairs, openings that are not square. Or a walk-up, one elevator, a route that runs across the back deck.
A kitchen renovation
Appliances get chosen before cabinets are built, so the route into the house is often the only thing that can be confirmed on site.
Anything you are unsure about
Ask before delivery day rather than after. It costs nothing to be certain.
The Fit Check is for customers who have selected or ordered appliances with Yale Appliance. It is not a general home measuring service.
How a Fit Check Works
Three steps, and it starts with a model number rather than a form.
1 Give your Appliance Sales Consultant the model
The check is model-specific, so the team needs the specific product specifications listed. Give them the exact model on your order, or both models if you are still deciding between two. Photos of the space help as well. If you have not worked with anyone yet, call 617-825-9253 or book a showroom visit.
2 A trained Yale team member comes out
Usually within a few days. We will not give you a date until we have one we can keep. Someone 18 or older needs to be home, with access to the space and the route in.
3 You get the answer
Whether the product you chose fits, and any access or delivery concern worth knowing about before delivery day. If it will not work, your consultant shows you what will.

Where Is the Fit Check Available?
Across the Yale Appliance delivery area. Coverage is confirmed by address rather than by town, because the boundary does not follow town lines in every direction.

What Customers Say About Measuring First
I bought a stackable washer and dryer for an area that was a tight squeeze and Yale took the time to check it out in advance to make sure it would fit.
Erin, Boston, MAGerlin Veliz, Johnny Veliz and Manuel Sequen from Truck #10 were very knowledgeable with my existing stackable unit and was extremely helpful during the measurement appointment. I had purchased the wrong unit (gas instead of electric), and they were able to inform me during that appointment.
Winnie, Framingham, MAIvan was fantastic. He was thoughtful, professional, personable, and reassuring that everything would go smoothly on delivery day as a result of his detailed site visit and planning.
Sarah, Boston, MA

Free Fit Check Questions, Answered
Is the Free Fit Check really free?
Yes. There is no charge for the visit, and the answer costs the same whether it is yes or no. Yale Appliance offers it because a measured space is a delivery that goes right the first time, and because the alternative is a customer waiting on an appliance that cannot physically reach the room it was bought for. Ask for one and it costs you nothing but the appointment.
How do I get a Free Fit Check?
Ask your Appliance Sales Consultant, and give them the specific model. The Fit Check is arranged by your salesperson rather than booked through a form, because they are the person who has your order and your product specifications. The team needs those specifications listed in order to perform the check. If you have not worked with anyone at Yale Appliance yet, call 617-825-9253 or book a showroom visit.
Does the product have to be on an order first?
In most cases it already is. The Fit Check is model-specific, so by the time the visit happens the product has usually been selected and placed on an order, and the check confirms that specific product will fit your home and the location you want it in. If you are still deciding between two products, provide the specifications for both and both will be checked. Either way the visit happens before delivery day and there is no charge.
What do you check on a Fit Check?
Whether the specific product you chose can fit through the exterior entry points of your home, be safely brought into the desired room, and fit within the available space where applicable. That means every doorway, hallway, turn, stair, landing and threshold between the truck and the spot the appliance is going. On basic products it also means the opening itself, measured on site rather than taken off a plan, including depth with the door and handle attached.
Which products do you check the space and openings for?
Openings and available space are checked for basic products such as freestanding refrigerators, standard ranges and laundry appliances. What is not checked is cutout dimensions or installation readiness, and that applies to wall ovens, dishwashers, hoods, microwaves, microwave drawers, warming drawers, under-counter products and built-in refrigeration. For those eight, your installer and the installation trip estimate confirm the opening.
Does the Fit Check cover my wall oven or dishwasher cutout?
No. A Fit Check does not check cutout dimensions or installation readiness for wall ovens, dishwashers, hoods, microwaves, microwave drawers, warming drawers, under-counter products or built-in refrigeration. Those belong with your installer and the separate installation trip estimate, which is the visit that measures the cutout and confirms the opening is ready. Ask your Appliance Sales Consultant which of the two visits your order needs, or call 617-825-9253.
Do you check the panels and hardware on my integrated refrigerator?
No. Panel and hardware readiness for integrated refrigeration is not part of a Fit Check. Neither is the cutout dimension or the installation readiness of the opening. Those belong with your installer and the separate installation trip estimate. Integrated refrigeration is the product where the two visits are most often confused, so if you have ordered one, ask your Appliance Sales Consultant which visit is scheduled and what it will confirm.
Does someone need to be home?
Yes. Someone 18 or older needs to be there, because the visit involves walking the route into your home and looking at the space the appliance is going into. Have the area reasonably clear if you can, and have the model on your order ready. Photos of the space help your Appliance Sales Consultant brief the team beforehand.
How soon can you come out?
Usually within a few days of your Appliance Sales Consultant arranging it. Yale Appliance will not give you a date until it has one it can keep, so the appointment is confirmed with you rather than estimated. Because Fit Checks are routed the same way deliveries are, timing depends on which zone your address falls in and how that week is already scheduled.
Which appliances is a Fit Check most useful for?
In practice, mostly laundry and refrigeration. Gas dryers are the most common request by a wide margin, because of the gas line, the vent and a basement or closet location. Stacked and unitized pairs come next, then bottom-mount and French-door refrigerators.
Will you move or disconnect my old appliance?
No. The team does not remove or disconnect your existing appliance during the site check. They will look at where the existing unit has to come out and whether that route works, because that affects delivery day, but the check is a look rather than a work order. Removal and haul-away are handled at delivery, not at the Fit Check.
What if the product I ordered will not fit?
You find out before delivery day, and Yale Appliance shows you what does fit instead. That is the reason the visit happens first rather than with a crew standing in your kitchen. Because Yale carries alternatives across every major brand, a fit problem usually turns into a different model rather than a lost kitchen. Talk to your Appliance Sales Consultant about changing the order. If you would rather cancel than swap models, there is no penalty for cancelling.
I already ordered, and now I am not sure it will fit. What should IÂ do?
This is the normal case rather than the exception, and a Fit Check is exactly what it is for. Call your Appliance Sales Consultant, or 617-825-9253, before delivery day. Depending on what you ordered and where it is going, that may be a short conversation about measurements, or it may be worth sending a trained Yale team member out to see the space first.
Is a Fit Check the same as the installation trip estimate?
No. They are two different visits. The Fit Check confirms that the specific product you chose can get into your home and fit the space where applicable, and it is free. The installation trip estimate is for installation: an experienced installer confirms cutouts and installation readiness along with your electrical, plumbing and gas requirements, quotes the work with itemized pricing, and books the date. It is $199.99, credited to your installation fee.
Will Yale Appliance fix the problems a Fit Check finds?
The Fit Check is a look, not a work order, and it does not include cabinet or countertop modification assessments. If a different model is the right answer, your Appliance Sales Consultant will show you the options. If cabinetry, countertop, plumbing, electrical or gas work looks necessary, that is yours to book with the relevant trade, and you will know early enough to book it.
Where does Yale Appliance offer the Fit Check?
Greater Boston, MetroWest, the South Shore, the South Coast, Cape Cod, Bristol County, Rhode Island, Nantucket, and southern New Hampshire. Coverage is confirmed by address rather than by town, because the boundary does not follow town lines in every direction. Tell your Appliance Sales Consultant where you are, or call 617-825-9253, and Yale Appliance will confirm it.
Who comes to my home for a Fit Check?
A trained Yale team member. It may well be someone from the crew that ends up delivering your appliances, because Fit Checks and deliveries run the same zones, which means the people carrying the appliance in have often already seen the route they have to carry it through.
Not sure it will fit? Let us come look.
A visit now beats a crew in your kitchen with an appliance that will not go in. Ask your consultant for a Fit Check, tell them the model, and we will confirm it before delivery day.
